Kathy has been drawing and painting since she was a child when her Mom sat her down at the kitchen table, she even recalls drawing a Halloween project in the 2nd grade. While in the Newhall School District she did a great mosaic of airplanes at LAX and Fire Prevention poster at her Junior High School. In High School and at Church Kathy’s art education improved dramatically. She even amusingly notes that she doodled her way through nursing school in college. She also illustrated a Family Planning Textbook at only 19-years of age.
As a registered nurse she developed numerous programs for LA Country Department of Health Services, Contra Costa County, and numerous clinics in Oregon. Kathy went to USC to get her RN credential and has a BA in liberal studies and a pre-school teaching degree from CSUN. She also taught bio-chemistry as a student teacher at LA Valley College.
Locally, Kathy has participated in art and music programs at Westminster Presbyterian Church and she spent 3-years teaching music to adults with disabilities at Ocean View Pavilion’s Adult Day Care Program. Kathy’s mother was an artist, musician, and writer. Her father and his family were accomplished artists. Her father’s side of the family did opera singing, performances, and fine art. Obviously, singing, dancing, drawing, painting and teaching is a way of life and brings great joy – it’s in her blood.
